Democritus

He was a Greek thinker and philosopher who lived a long time ago. He had an inquisitive mind and was always asking questions because he wanted to understand the world around him better.

He was very curious about how small things could get if we kept cutting them up.

"What happens if you keep cutting a piece of matter into halves? How many cuts are needed before a piece of matter cannot be broken down further?"

"If you keep cutting a melon into smaller pieces, you will get…. fruit salad?"

"No! Something that cannot be cut further!"

The question Democritus asked may seem ordinary. However, it turned out to be a very important question in Science. This question led him to develop the idea that matter is made up of small particles called atoms. His idea was later proven by other scientists.

Today, scientists are still asking questions in their study of atoms. By studying atoms, scientists can find out more about our world.

You will never get the answers you need if you don't ask questions!

Be like Democritus and do not be afraid to ask questions about the things around you that matter!
